Hellooo lovelies!
In my last post, I reviewed Body Shop's Wild Argan Oil Scrub & Oil which were amazing products; however were only for the body. So this got me experimenting with a few kitchen ingredients and I came up with a great cost effective DIY Argan scrub suitable for the face and body!
(okay the more I type the word Argan the more and more freaky it looks.. Argan? Argan.Argan.)
Brown sugar granules (1 tsp)
Measurements are approximate, feel free to amend any quantities if necessary.
So the process is really simple, all you need to do is mix the three ingredients into a bowl & ensure the mixture is thick enough to stay on your face (if it's too runny, it'll slide off and cause a mess).
Read the tips below to help tailor this scrub/mask to your skin type!
1. If you have sensitive skin, the sugar granules may feel harsh/rough on the skin. You can use a mortar pestle to crush the granules down or put less into the scrub.
2. If you have dry skin, you can leave the scrub on for about 10 minutes as a mask. The honey and argan oil combination have great moisturising properties and you can also switch up the ingredients. For example, you can substitute the argan oil for coconut or sweet almond oil - it's up to you.
3. For oily or acne-prone skin, the argan oil may cause breakouts or congest your pores. Instead I recommend replacing the argan oil with jojoba oil which is a non comedogenic ingredient. Also switch the quantities used between honey & jojoba oil (so 2tsp jojoba oil & 1½ tsp honey). To prevent acne scarring, I would also recommend incorporating tip 1 into this routine.
Please note, this scrub/mask doesn't cure/resolve acne, it simply moisturizes the skin without congesting pores & removes dead skin cells.
4. If you would like to use this as a 2 in 1 scrub/mask, apply half the mixture over your face. Put the remaining half in the microwave until it's warm (not boiling) and apply over the previous layer. Leave it on for about 10 minutes, then wash off with cool water.
Make sure you only heat up the left over product as the sugar granules may melt in the microwave.
5. You can also add essential oils to the mixture if you would like the scrub to be fragrant, however I would stick to using the essential oils on my body instead of my face.
6. Don't worry if the sugar settles to the bottom of the container, use a spatula or a spoon and give it a good whirl before use. I actually think it looks cool especially if your giving it to someone as a gift!
Be sure to leave your thoughts & comments if you give this DIY a try!
